The UVA Basketball team, after winning its opener over Campbell, gets another guarantee game opponent, Coppin State, on Monday night at 7 p.m. ET in JPJ.
Coppin State has already played three games, losing all three by double-digits, including a 64-49 loss to Wake Forest on Nov. 4.
The Eagles also have guarantee games at Miami and NC State before getting into the meat of the MEAC schedule.
They’re coming off a 2-27 season in 2023-2024 under Larry Stewart, who is in his second season at the school.
Stewart is a 1991 alum of Coppin State, which he led to the NCAA Tournament in 1990. That was Coppin State’s first-ever appearance in the Big Dance.
He went on to a five-year NBA career. He averaged 10.4 points a game as a rookie in 1991-1992 with the Washington Bullets, after making the team as an undrafted free agent.
Stewart’s younger brother, Stephen, is an assistant coach at Coppin State.
Stephen was a two-time MEAC Player of the Year, in 1994 and 1995.
