The promotion of Brad Soderberg back to one of the five big seats on Tony Bennett’s bench staff didn’t merit a news release from UVA Athletics.
Poor Soderberg, guy gets no respect.
The UVA men’s basketball twitter account did put out a one-line notice there on Wednesday, but that was it.
Soderberg, who coached with Dick Bennett at Wisconsin, has been on Tony Bennett’s staff at UVA for 10 years, seven as a full-fledged assistant, the last three as the director of scouting.
The prime-time assistant spot opened up last week when Johnny Carpenter left the program to take a job with the NBA’s Memphis Grizzlies.
The news that Kyle Guy is back in Charlottesville, with a job titled athlete development mentor/special assistant, did get a news release earlier in the day on Wednesday.
What I’m hearing is that Soderberg’s promotion is considered temporary, that the full-time assistant job will be Guy’s once he finishes up his undergraduate degree.
Guy, you may remember, left school after his junior year, in 2019, to declare for the NBA Draft.
