UVA Baseball alum Kyle Teel is headed to the Chicago White Sox, as part of the trade in which the Boston Red Sox acquired top-tier starting pitcher Garrett Crochet.
Teel, a first-round pick of the Red Sox in the 2023 MLB Draft, finished the 2024 season at Triple-A Worcester, where he slashed .255/.374/.343 in 123 plate appearances in 28 games.
In 112 games at the Double-A and Triple-A levels in 2024, Teel slashed .288/.386/.433 with 13 homers, 78 RBIs and 12 stolen bases.
Teel was rated the #4 prospect in the Red Sox farm system by MLB.com, and the #25 prospect overall in all of MiLB, at the end of the 2024 season.
Teel is considered big-league ready, and will be expected to compete for the starting catcher job with the White Sox, with another young prospect, Edgar Quero, who was ranked #59 in the MLB.com Top 100 prospects at the end of the 2024 season.
Crochet, a four-year MLB veteran at the age of 25, was 6-12 with a 3.58 ERA and 1.07 WHIP for a historically bad White Sox team in 2024, with 209 strikeouts and 33 walks in 146.0 innings.
