Chris Graham

UVA AthleticsUVA associate head coach Tyler Fenwick was named as a member of the U.S. Pan Pacific coaching staff by the U.S. swimming committee. Fenwick will serve as an assistant coach for the national team at the Pan Pacific Championships in Tokyo August 9-14.

“It is an honor to represent the United States on the international stage,” Fenwick said. “A primary objective of Todd DeSorbo is for our athletes and coaches at Virginia to represent Team USA. I’m humbled each time I wear red, white and blue. I’m very excited to help lead the U.S. team to Tokyo.”

Fenwick has worked with the U.S. national team for six years, serving as the head coach for the 2014 World Cup, the 2015 and 2017 World University Games and the 2017 and 2018 UANA Pan America Championships. He was named to the U.S. national team coaching staff five times, coaching in 2012-13, 2014-15, 2015-16, 2016-17 and 2017-18.

While coaching with the U.S. national team, Fenwick had an athlete capture a silver medal at the 2015 World Championships and a silver medal at the 2015 Pan American Championships. He saw five individual U.S. national champions in addition to 10 athletes posting top-10 finishes at the World Championships.

In Fenwick’s first year as the associate head coach at Virginia, the Cavaliers captured the 2018 Women’s ACC Championships. On the national stage, the team had 19 student-athletes earn All-America honors with 11 swimmers capturing the honor in more than one event.

The Pan Pacific Championships is held every four years. The U.S. captured 43 medals at the 2014 Pan Pacific Swimming Championships, leading the medal count in Gold Coast, Australia.
