We have a name now in the officer-involved shooting at the Staunton Walmart last night.
Montique Treymayne Gaston, 39, of Portsmouth, was pronounced dead at the scene of the 7:15 p.m. shooting, per a report from the Staunton Police Department released just after 2:30 p.m.
The police officer involved in the shooting was not injured, according to a release from the PD.
The release stressed that the investigation into the shooting is now under the purview of the Virginia State Police.
From there, the case will be reviewed by a special prosecutor – translation: a Commonwealth’s Attorney from outside the area.
