Tyler Wilson shines in Baltimore win

tyler wilsonUVA alum Tyler Wilson had the best outing of his MLB career, holding the Boston Red Sox to three hits in eight scoreless innings in a 5-1 Baltimore win Thursday.

Wilson (3-5, 4.16 ERA) struck out six and walked one, throwing 100 pitches, 65 for strikes.

A two-run homer by Adam Jones (.245/.294/.448) put the Orioles (38-27) on top to stay. Jones was 2-for-5 at the plate with three RBIs on the night.

It was a Jones RBI double in the fourth that pushed the lead to 3-0. A pair of run-scoring hits in the fifth, by Chris Davis (.226/.345/.483) and Jonathan Schoop (.268/.298/.464) pushed the lead to 5-0.

David Ortiz hit a homer off O’s reliever Brad Brach with two outs in the ninth to break up the shutout.

Manny Machado (.308/.373/.601) had three hits for Baltimore, which retakes a one-game lead over Boston (37-28) in the American League East.
