Residents of Harrisonburg may now submit anonymous tips to the police from a smartphone or online through a new app.

The Harrisonburg Police Department launched tip411 and the Harrisonburg PD mobile app to help residents connect with the department, find information and view alerts.

The new tool enables the public to share an anonymous tip with police and lets officers respond back to create a two-way conversation.

“I believe very strongly that a police department’s success lies with its relationship to the community,” said Rod Pollard, Harrisonburg Police interim chief. “Our new tip411 system will allow us to continue delivering exceptional police services that enable the safety, security and well-being of all by promoting a stronger partnership with our community members.”

Tip411 is not for emergencies. In the case of an emergency, residents should always call 9-1-1.
