bridgewaterTwo Bridgewater College students who achieved superior academic standards and good campus citizenship have been selected as recipients of the John W. and Lurene M. Durna Endowed Scholarship, awarded to those who intend to pursue a career in law.

Receiving this year’s Durna scholarship are junior Zachary J. Kues, an economics major and the son of George and Sharon Kues of Manchester, Md., and senior Kasey Memphis, a history and political science major and the daughter of Karen and Michael Memphis of Manchester, Md.

Kues and Memphis, each of whom received a $6,500 scholarship, also were presented with a plaque from Bridgewater President David W. Bushman, and will be recognized with a nameplate on the “Durna Scholar of the Year” plaque in the College’s Kline Campus Center.

The scholarship memorializes the affection that John W. Durna (Class of 1939) and Lurene M. Hartman Durna (Class of 1940) had for their alma mater. The scholarship is limited to full-time students and is awarded for one year.

Bridgewater College is a private, four-year liberal arts college located in the Central Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. Founded in 1880, it was the state’s first private, coeducational college. Today, Bridgewater College is home to approximately 1,800 undergraduate students.
