Trump on higher prices: ‘Costs are way down,’ ‘con job by Democrats’

Donald Trump told UVA Law alum Laura Ingraham on Fox News on Monday that “costs are way down,” and that the higher prices you’re seeing at the grocery store and elsewhere are just “a con job by the Democrats.”

The party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command.

“Costs are way down,” Trump insisted, offering as his smoking gun: “Gasoline is gonna be hitting $2 pretty soon, or around $2. Gasoline is at $2.70 now.”

The next time Donald Trump buys gas at a gas station will be the first time.

Anyway.

GasBuddy has the nationwide average for a gallon of gas at $3.08 at this writing; incidentally, that’s up four cents per gallon from a year ago today.

Quick math there: $3.08 a gallon is, indeed, more than $2.70 a gallon, and a lot more than $2 a gallon.

Nobody in either their right mind or otherwise is saying gas is going to ever be $2 a gallon again.

The last time we were there was at the beginning of the pandemic in 2020, back when it didn’t matter that gas was $2 a gallon, because you didn’t have anywhere to go.

As for the rest of it:

That’s some con job being done there by Democrats.

Or, you know, somebody.

(Name rhymes with Ronald Frump.)
