Travis Sykora shines for Fredericksburg Nationals in 2-0 win

Chris Graham

fredericksburg nationals Travis Sykora, the top prospect in the Washington Nationals farm system, struck out five in three perfect innings for the Fredericksburg Nationals, who would go on to one-hit the Carolina Mudcats in a 2-0 win on Tuesday night.

Sykora, a third-round draft pick in 2023, is still getting his feet under him after undergoing hip labrum surgery in the offseason.

Tonight’s start was his fourth of the season, and he’s only gone 11.0 innings total, allowing two hits, striking out 23 and walking two, obviously bonkers numbers.

In 2024, Sykora, 21, a 6’6”, 232-pound righthander, was 5-3 with a 2.33 ERA, 0.91 WHIP and 129 Ks in 85.0 innings at Fredericksburg, the Nats’ High-A affiliate.

Bryan Polanco, a 23-year-old signed as a free agent, got the win for the FredNats, with six innings of work in which he allowed one hit, walked one and struck out two batters.

Luke Dickerson, a former UVA Baseball commit who was taken in the second round of the 2024 draft, was 1-for-3 with an RBI double.

Dickerson is hitting .271 with two homers and an .824 OPS in the minors in 2025.
