Traffic pattern change begins May 14 on Route 11 at Shenandoah, Warren line

The Route 11 Cedar Creek bridge project at the Shenandoah-Warren county line is entering a new phase, which means a traffic-pattern change for drivers. Contractors have been working for the past year on a new bridge for northbound and southbound Route 11 between Strasburg and Middletown. The bridge is scheduled to open to northbound traffic only on Monday, May 14, 2018.

Here is what Route 11 drivers can expect beginning May 14:

• Northbound traffic will use the right lane of the new Cedar Creek bridge.
• Southbound traffic will use the right lane of the existing southbound bridge.
• This pattern is expected to be in place through mid-June, while contractors remove the northbound median crossovers and construct southbound transition lanes.

The work zone speed limit is 35 miles an hour.

The Cedar Creek project is scheduled for completion in fall 2018. At that time, northbound and southbound Route 11 drivers will share the new two-lane bridge. The existing southbound bridge will be removed at the end of the project.

On January 18, 2017, the Commonwealth Transportation Board awarded a $6.9 million contract to Perry Engineering Co. Inc. of Winchester, Virginia. All work is weather permitting.
