Chris Tillman was solid in his first start in three weeks, pitching Baltimore to a clutch 3-1 win at Detroit on Sunday.
Tillman (16-5, 3.68 ERA, 1.25 WHIP), in his first outing since Aug. 20, gave up a run on four hits in six innings, striking out four and walking one.
Zach Britton (41 saves, 0.63 ERA, 0.84 WHIP) pitched around a hit and a walk in the ninth to record the save.
Michael Bourn (2) and Jonathan Schoop (23) homered for the O’s (78-64), who took the final two games in the three-game series at Detroit (76-66).
The win lifts the O’s into a tie with Toronto (78-64) for the two AL wild-card spots, with both two games up on Detroit and the New York Yankees, with Houston (75-67) three games back.
