A TikTok challenge has local police issuing a warning that the social media trend may have “very real consequences.”

The Albemarle County Police Department issued the community safety alert in response to the TikTok Door Knock Challenge which has been make the rounds for almost a year on the social-media channel.

The challenge involves repeatedly banging on doors or windows, usually late at night, and running away while recording the act for TikTok.

“What may feel like just a prank can have very real consequences and can create serious safety concerns,” the alert states.

A similar challenge hit social media channels with a “door kick” where teens were kicking in the front doors of strangers’ homes.

While it may seem like a harmless prank, it could lead to dangerous confrontations and result in property damage.

The ACPD encourages parents and guardians to talk to teen about why this challenge is dangerous and discourage participation.

If you experience suspicious activity at your home, please contact ACPD.
