Three firms submit price proposals for Route 29 Solutions design-build projects

Chris Graham

route 29Three design-build teams submitted price proposals to design and construct the three projects included in the Route 29 Solutions design-build package.

Those proposals were opened this morning at the Virginia Department of Transportation’s Central Office in Richmond. VDOT sought proposals to build the three projects using a two-phase, best value Design-Build project delivery process.

The companies that submitted proposals, and the proposal prices, are:

Lane-Corman Joint Venture / RK&K                                                             $116,746,000

Shirley Contracting Co. / Dewberry                                                         $187,987,693.50

Skanska-Branch Joint Venture / JMT                                                            $159,977,000

Three projects are included in the design-build package: widening Route 29 between Polo Grounds Road and Towncenter Drive, extending Berkmar Drive from Hilton Heights Road to Towncenter Drive, and grade separating the intersection of Rio Road and Route 29.

VDOT recently completed evaluation and scoring of the technical proposals that were submitted on Jan. 6. The selection of the design-builder will be based on evaluation of the technical and price proposals. The technical proposals are weighted 30 percent and the price proposals receive 70 percent weight.

VDOT will issue a notice of intent to award to the highest-ranked design-builder once a review of the price proposal has been completed. Final rankings and the notice of intent to award will be posted on the VDOT website at www.virginiadot.org/business/soq.asp

Information about the Route 29 Solutions package can be found on VDOT’s website at:  www.Route29Solutions.org.
