For a quick two hours on Sunday, Jan. 18, Virginians will have access to the Executive Mansion through an Open House being hosted by the Spanberger Inaugural Committee.

Abigail Spanberger will have been inaugurated as Virginia’s 75th governor a day earlier, on Saturday, Jan. 17.

In the intervening hours, Spanberger will be busy signing a raft of executive orders undoing four years of MAGA.

The Open House on Day 2 runs from 2-4 p.m. on Jan. 18, and as the term Open House would seem to indicate, it’s open to the public, though a press release from the Inaugural Committee notes, “entry is first come, first served.”

Just warning you ahead of time: I wouldn’t expect the Spanberger team to go full out Trump with new placards going in beneath the portraits of her Republican predecessors rife with insults.

I mean, that’s what I’d do – or at least, it’s what I’d want to do.

To wit:

  • Glenn Youngkin: Almost got the Washington Commanders, Washington Wizards and Washington Capitals to move to Northern Virginia.
  • Bob McDonnell: Congratulations on getting that felony conviction overturned!
  • Jim Gilmore: We still pay the car tax, dunderhead.
  • George Allen: Five INTs in the second half against Maryland to blow a 23-3 lead. A record in the UVA Football history books that will never be broken, or remotely approached.

“Adam and I are looking forward to welcoming Virginians into our new home — a home which belongs to everyone who lives in our great Commonwealth,” said Spanberger, who was elected in a landslide in November, and is several degrees classier than I could ever hope to be.

“This upcoming inauguration is about the people of Virginia, not any one person,” Spanberger said. “As my administration works over the next four years to bring people together, lower costs for Virginia families, and build a stronger future for our Commonwealth, Virginia’s Executive Mansion will be a symbol of all that unites us as Virginians.”

Note to Team Spanberger: the suggested portrait placard inscriptions are yours free of charge.
