Taylor slam lifts Nats to win over D’backs, 9-6

nationals_logoA ninth-inning Michael Taylor grand slam was the difference for the Nats in a wild 9-6 win at Arizona Wednesday afternoon.

The Diamondbacks had just taken the lead in the bottom of the eighth on a two-out RBI single by Yasmany Tomas that broke a 5-5 tie.

Denard Span got the Washington rally going in the ninth with a one-out single. Yunel Escobar singled, and then Jayson Werth walked, bringing up Taylor, who drove a 93-mph 1-0 fastball from Addison Reed (0-2) into the stands in center for his third homer of the season.

Drew Storen got his 10th save of the season, striking out the side in a 1-2-3 ninth.

Aaron Barrett (3-0) vultured the win in relief despite giving up a run on two hits in the eighth.

Nats starter Gio Gonzalez gave up five runs on nine hits in five innings of work.

The win is the 12th in 15 games for the Nationals, who are two games behind the first-place New York Mets in the National League East.
