Tang signs with VMI Basketball in early period

VMI basketball coach Dan Earl announced the signing of 6-5, 185, shooting guard Louis Tang to a national letter-of-intent during the November early signing period.

Tang, who competes in the highly competitive WCAC playing for Saint Mary’s Ryken in Leonardtown, Maryland, was tabbed 2017-2018 Honorable Mention All-Conference Selection after averaging 7.0 ppg, 6.0 rpg, and shooting 37% from 3-point range as a junior, playing alongside 2018 Division I signees Wynston Tabb (Boston College), and Servet Kurnaz (Denver).

Tang led St. Mary’s Ryken in scoring (14.6 ppg), rebounding (7.4 rpg), assists (2.6 apg), and steals (2.2 spg) in the prestigious Capitol Hoops Summer League during the 2018 season.

Tang was also a key member of The District Basketball Club this past summer, a top-flight DMV area grassroots program, helping his team to a 17u Super Showcase Championship in Orlando, Florida.

Originally from Kaohsiung, Taiwan, Tang was a member of both the U16 and U17 Taiwanese National Teams, helping the U16 team to a second place finish in FIBA Asia in 2015.

The fans at Cameron Hall will enjoy watching him compete and the level of intensity he brings every time he steps on the court.”

He will help Coach Earl continue to establish a winning culture at VMI, and will bring great intangibles to VMI and their program.”
