Two Virginia State Police troopers were injured in a pursuit on Interstate 64 in Albemarle County on Friday night.

The troopers attempted to stop a suspect vehicle on Interstate 81 northbound in Augusta County for a criminal violation at approximately 11 p.m. The vehicle did not stop, and a pursuit was initiated.

The pursuit continued to I-64 eastbound, where Albemarle County police officers assisted in the pursuit.

In an attempt to stop the suspect vehicle, spike strips were deployed at the 120-mile marker.

The suspect vehicle crashed after striking the spike strips, and a State Police vehicle also crashed when it struck the debris field.

The two troopers were taken to area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.

The suspect driver fled the scene on foot, but with the assistance of aviation and K-9 units, was eventually taken into custody. The suspect was also treated at a local hospital. The suspect has since been released into custody, and charges are pending.

Virginia State Police did not name the suspect or troopers involved in the accident.
