Hailey RuszalaThe Waynesboro YMCA year round competitive swim team, SMAC, competed in the LY 2015 YMCA October Invite, October 17th and 18th. The meet was held in Lynchburg at the Jamerson YMCA and was the first short course meet of the season for SMAC.  Short course meets are those that are competed in a 25 yard pool.

SMAC took the following 46 swimmers to the meet: Cameron Aenchbacher (8), Nic Aldridge (12), Logan Atkins (10),  Naomi Blair (9), Emily Breeden (9), Bobby Carey (18), Dean Dalton (7), Emma Davis (10), Alice Elkins (12), McKina Fitzgerald (16), Miles Fitzgerald (12), Taylor Hubbard (15), Norah Hunt (17), Aaron James (17), Claudia James (14), Morgan James (16), Kali Jones (12), Carson Lawhorne (11), Miguel Loya (11), Brianna Mason (8), Davis Mckellop (10), Paige Mckellop (9), Justin Merritt (18), Jordan Miller (17), Cameron Murie (14), Rachel Murie (12), Gabriela Niculescu (11), Mia Peifer (10), Clara Riggan (13), Brazil Rule (17), Charlotte Rumsey (15), Christian Ruszala (13), Hailey Ruszala (9), Hayden Ruszala (11), Jackson Schundler (11), Ellie Schundler  (9), Hailey Sheffield (10), Julia Smith (10), Joseph Thornberry (12), Rowland Thornberry (9), Jack Vaughn (15), Kristen Wagner (13), Anna Weaber (9), Keelin Wolfe (18), Emmaline Woodworth (13), and Ben Young (12).

Aenchbacher, Aldridge, Elkins, Lawhorne, Loya, Davis Mckellop, Christian Ruszala, Hailey Ruszala, Hayden Ruszala. Ellie Schundler, Joseph Thornberry, Rowland Thornberry, Weaber, and Young all racked up at least 5 best times.  In addition, Logan Atkins, Dean Dalton, Kali Jones, and Jack Vaughn, all swimming in their first short course meet, had strong showings and contributed heavily to the team’s point total.

Amazingly, every swimmer attending the meet for SMAC contributed points.  Points are earned based on how the swimmers’ place in their events.  Veteran SMAC swimmers Norah Hunt and Brazil Rule garnered the most points for the team, achieving 117 and 114, respectively.

SMAC will now take its younger swimmers to Lexington to compete in a Halloween sprint meet, followed by a meet in Christiansburg.  The team will then host their annual Fall Invite at the Waynesboro YMCA towards the end of November.
