Streaking Nationals complete sweep of Giants, win 3-1

nationals_logoJordan Zimmerman was dominant in seven solid innings, leading the Washington Nationals to a 3-1 win over the defending World Series champion San Francisco Giants Sunday night, completing a three-game weekend sweep.

Zimmerman (7-5, 3.03 ERA) gave up a run on three hits in seven innings, striking out eight and walking one.

The only damage done to Zimmerman on the day was a solo homer in the fourth by Brandon Crawford, his 12th of the season, that tied the game at 1-1.

A Michael Taylor RBI single in the second had given the Nats the early lead.

It would remain 1-1 into the sixth, when Wilson Ramos went deep for a solo homer, his eighth of the season, off San Francisco starter George Kontos (2-1, 1.74 ERA).

A Ramos RBI single in the bottom of the eighth added an important insurance run for the Nationals. Drew Storen pitched around a one-out walk to Buster Posey in the ninth to close out the game for his 25th save.

Washington (46-36) have a four and a half game lead in the National League East.
