Staunton Schools encourages resident input in search for new superintendent

Staunton Schools is on a search for a new superintendent and city residents are encouraged to participate in the process by attending community forums.

Superintendent Dr. Garett Smith announced his retirement in early February, which is effective June 30.

Staunton City School Board invites residents to share thoughts about the qualities wanted in the next superintendent as it begins to evaluate candidates for the position. Dr. Kevin Castner and Dr. Wayne Harris of BWP and Associates will lead the community engagement process.

The next community forum will be held on April 2 at 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Rita S. Wilson Council Chambers of City Hall, First Floor, 116 W. Beverley St., Staunton. An evening forum will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the Ware Elementary School Cafeteria, 330 Grubert Ave., Staunton.

On April 3, forums will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Rita S. Wilson Council Chambers, City Hall,
First Floor, 116 W. Beverley St., Staunton and from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in Staunton High School Cafeteria, 1301 N. Coalter St., Staunton.

Anyone unable to attend meetings in person is encouraged to participate through an online survey.
