All Staunton residents, property owners and stakeholders are encouraged to participate in the second community workshop for the city’s Comprehensive Plan Update.
The open house event will be Wednesday, June 25, 2025, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in Staunton High School’s cafeteria, 1301 N Coalter Street. A Comprehensive Plan is a long-range planning document, which serves as a 20-year roadmap that informs local elected officials on critical issues that impact citizens’ daily lives.
“This is an important opportunity for the community to shape the direction of Staunton’s future. The feedback we received in January was invaluable, and this meeting will help refine the plan’s goals and ensure that it reflects the vision and values of the people who live and work here,” Staunton Long Range/Comprehensive Planner Meggie Taylor said.
The workshop builds on the successful community engagement from the January open house and represents the midpoint of the 18-month process. Participants will review findings from earlier public input and provide feedback on the city’s draft vision and goals across key areas, including land use, housing, transportation and quality of life.
The June meeting will also facilitate conversation about how and where Staunton should grow, with activities to help update the city’s Future Land-Use Map, a key tool that guides zoning and development decisions.
The event is open to everyone, and attendees can arrive anytime during the event and move through a series of stations at their own pace. Each station will include posters, maps, and hands-on activities, such as placing stickers on a city-wide map, prioritizing themes and brainstorming “big ideas.”
Stations are grouped around key themes:
Our Built Community (land use, housing, infrastructure, transportation and economic development)
Our People (education, health and human services, public safety)
Our Culture and History (recreation, environment, historic preservation)
Although not required, attendees may RSVP for the event and let the city know they are coming.
A third and final community meeting will be held in fall 2025. Additional engagement efforts, including a follow-up community survey, are planned to help evaluate and vet recommendations before the plan’s completion.
