Staunton man charged with embezzlement from Waynesboro Walmart

Brookins, Christopher DarrellThe Waynesboro Police Department has charged a Staunton man with embezzlement after he stole several hundred dollars from his employer over a three-week period beginning in mid-September. Christopher Darrell Brookins, 23 years old, faces a single felony charge after it was determined he stole $620 from Walmart, 116 Lucy Lane.

The store assets protection staff notified the police department that Brookins, who had been a cashier at the store, had been stealing $20.00 bills out of the register to which he was assigned between Sept. 14 and Oct. 3.

Brookins was caught on store surveillance cameras pocketing the cash.

He surrendered himself at the Waynesboro Police Department on Oct. 22.  He was released on personal recognizance bond.
