The local Happy Birthday America group in Staunton is gearing up for America’s 250th birthday in 2026.

Repeat after me: Semiquincentennial.

OK, don’t repeat after me. That one’s hard.

The planning is under way for the July 4 weekend next summer, which the Happy Birthday America folks are saying will feature expanded programming.

I was only 4 back for the 1976 Bicentennial, so I remember none of it.

Here’s to hoping that the memories of 2026 won’t get ruined by a certain someone, right?

Signature events for the local Staunton July 4th – the concerts, parade, pageant – will return.

Want to be a part? Happy Birthday America is currently inviting:

  • Local businesses, organizations and community groups to join as sponsors, parade participants or partners.
  • Residents and visitors to share ideas, volunteer, or take part in this historic national milestone.
