Staunton District Traffic Alert: Sept. 22-26

road-work-headerThe following is a list of highway work that might affect traffic in the Staunton VDOT transportation district during the coming weeks. The Staunton district is comprised of 11 counties: Alleghany, Bath, Rockbridge, Augusta, Highland, Rockingham, Shenandoah, Frederick, Page, Warren and Clarke. Work scheduled is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies. Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving tractors during mowing operations. Also, when traveling through a work zone, be alert to periodic changes in traffic patterns and lane closures.

ALLEGHANY COUNTY

INTERSTATE 64

(NEW) Mile marker 41 to 0, eastbound and westbound – Lane closures as needed for bridge and barrier wall sweeping. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Be alert for removing debris and clearing sign areas, cleaning bridge ditches and slopes. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 18 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Tuesday to Friday.

Route 60 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Tuesday to Friday.

Route 159 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Tuesday to Friday.

Route 311 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Tuesday to Friday.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 606 (Sioux Street, Clifton Forge) – Right shoulder closure with intermittent flagging for box culvert construction work under I-64. Estimated completion June 15, 2015.

Various roads – Mowing with a mobile operation. Patching with flagger traffic control.  Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY

INTERSTATE 64

(NEW) Mile marker 41 to 57, eastbound and westbound – Lane closures as needed for mowing and bridge sweeping, Tuesday through Saturday, 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.  Be alert for debris removal and cleaning bridge slopes.Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(NEW) Mile marker 56, eastbound – Slow-roll closure Sunday, September 21, from 7 a.m. to approximately7:30 a.m. for installation of fiber optic cables crossing I-81 at Lexington/Timber Ridge area. Slow roll will affect traffic on the ramp from I-64 eastbound to I-81 northbound.

Mile marker 51.4 to 55.2, eastbound and Mile marker 56.7 to 53.6 – Eastbound left lane closure as needed with a reduced speed limit of 55 miles per hour, 6 a.m. and 8 p.m. daily.  Westbound left lane closure as need between6 a.m. and 8 p.m. daily. Left shoulder closure and reduced speed limit of 55 miles per hour at all times. The Maury River Bridge rehabilitation project is estimated to be completed by Oct. 6, 2016.

 

INTERSTATE 81

(NEW) Mile marker 173 to 205, northbound and southbound – Lane closures as needed for mowing, Sundaythrough Thursday, 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.  Be alert for crews removing debris, repairing mile marker signs and cleaning paved ditches. Sunday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

(UPDATE) Mile marker 185 to 190, northbound – Alternating lane closures for paving.  Sunday, Sept. 21, from10 p.m. to 7 a.m. and Sept. 22 through 26, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.  Estimated project completion December 2014.

Mile marker 193 to 190, southbound.  Nighttime left lane closures, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m., for guardrail upgrades and shoulder paving. Estimated completion Jan. 15, 2015.

(NEW) Mile marker 205 to 200, including Ramp 200A, southbound.  Alternating lane closures Monday toThursday, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. for pavement work. Estimated completion December 2014.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 56 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Tuesday to Friday.

(NEW) Route 130 (Wert Faulkner Highway) – Flagger-controlled alternating lane closures for bridge inspections over Norfolk Southern railway, Crawford Creek and Route 688.  September 22, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Route 130 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Tuesday to Friday.

Route 252 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Tuesday to Friday.

Various roads – Mowing with a mobile operation. Patching, pipe replacement, pothole repairs, brush cutting, laying asphalt and ditch work with flagger traffic control. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

HIGHLAND COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 250 (Lantz Mountain area) – Flagger controlled lane closures as needed for pipe replacement.  Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Various roads – Mowing and brush cutting with a mobile operation. Patching with flagger control.  Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Routes 600 (Upper Backcreek Road), Route 607 (Big Valley Road) and Route 640 (Wimer Mountain Road)Pipe replacements with flagger controlled traffic. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Route 614, south (Cowpasture River Road) – Flagger controlled traffic for ditching. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Route 616 (Upper Shaws Fork) – Flagger controlled traffic for pipe replacement. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Various roads – Mowing and brush cutting with a mobile operation. Ditching and patching with flagger control. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

AUGUSTA COUNTY

INTERSTATE 64

Mile marker 87, westbound – Shoulder closure for bridge work over I-81at Mile marker 222, southbound. Monday to Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Estimated completion Oct. 3, 2014.

(UPDATE) Mile marker 94 to 107 – Shoulder closures along the median, eastbound and westbound, September 22 to 25, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day for installation of temporary fence and underground conduit system in median. Estimated completion July 6, 2015.

 

INTERSTATE 81

(UPDATE) Mile marker 205 to 237, northbound and southbound – Lane closures for mowing operations,Sunday and Monday, 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.   Be alert for debris removal, repairing mile marker signs, cleaning paved ditches and slopes.  Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(NEW) Mile marker 206 to 211, southbound. Alternating lane closures Monday to Thursday, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.for pavement work. Estimated completion December 2014.

(NEW) Mile marker 207 – Right shoulder closures as needed for repairs on Route 620 bridge over I-81. Monday through Thursday 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion Oct. 31, 2014.

Mile marker 213.3 (Exit 213 Greenville) – Shoulder closure Monday to Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. as needed for bridge work over Route 11. Estimated completion Sept. 26, 2014.

Mile marker 215 – Right shoulder closure Monday to Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. as needed for bridge work over Route 694. Estimated completion Sept. 26, 2014.

Exit 221, northbound and southbound bridges over ramp to I-64 – Shoulder closure Monday to Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. for bridge work. Estimated completion Oct. 3, 2014.

(NEW) Mile marker 228 to 229, northbound and southbound – Alternating single lane and shoulder closures for bridge inspection over Middle River, September 25, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.

Mile marker 228 to 238, northbound – Nighttime alternating lane closures 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. for pavement work and guardrail upgrades. Estimated completion Dec. 24, 2014.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 11– Lane and shoulder closures as needed for bridge work on I-81 overpass in the exit 213 area.  Monday to Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion Sept. 26, 2014.

Route 250 – Traffic restricted to single 12-foot wide lane during Ramsey’s Draft bridge replacement.  Monday through Saturday, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Traffic controlled by temporary signal. Work zone 1.04 mile west of Route 716 to 1.12 miles west of Route 716.  Estimated completion April 30, 2015.

Route 252 – Alternating lane closures as needed for pavement work from just south of Route 701 to 0.36 miles north of Route 802. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion December 2014.

Route 262 and ramps at Route 252, Route 703, Route 254 and Route 250 – Alternating lane closures with flagger operations for pavement work starting 0.28 mile west of Route 11, eastbound to Route 252. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. and Saturday 7 p.m. to Sunday 7 a.m.

Route 340 – Right shoulder closures as needed at various locations, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. for fiber optic installation from Route 11/Greenville to the Augusta/Rockingham County Line. Estimated completion Dec. 31, 2014.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 620 (Spotswood Road) – Flagger controlled lane closures for repairs on Route 620 bridge over I-81.  Monday to Thursday 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion Oct. 31, 2014.

Route 694 – Flagger controlled lane closure, Monday to Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. as needed for I-81 bridge work over Route 694. Estimated completion Sept. 26, 2014.

Route 703 (Hewitt Road, near Swoope) – Road closed until approximately October 31 for installation of new steel truss bridge over the Middle River. Work zone is 0.99 mile to Route 876 (Swoope Road) and 1.62 miles from Route 708 (Miss Phillips Road).  Detours: North side traffic use Route 703 (Hewitt Road) to Route 876 (Swoope Road) to Route 254 (Parkersburg Turnpike).  South side traffic use Route 703 (Hewitt Road) to Route 708 (Miss Phillips Road) to Route 254 (Parkersburg Turnpike).

Route 747 – Spot leveling work with flaggers at various locations. Monday – Friday, 7:30 a .m. to 3 p.m.

Route 854 – Alternating lane closures for paving and pavement marking from Route 11 to Route 1901, 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.  Estimated completion Dec. 20, 2014.

Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

Various roads – Lane and shoulder closures as needed for pipe installation, patching, brush cutting, shoulder repairs, ditching operations and grading.  Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

 

 

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY 

INTERSTATE 81

(UPDATE) Mile marker 237 to 264, northbound and southbound – Be alert for debris removal, cleaning paved and unpaved ditches. Pothole repairs as needed. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Exit 251, northbound and southbound – On- and off-ramps restricted to 10-foot widths for overnight guardrail installation. Estimated project completion Oct. 3, 2014.

(NEW) Mile marker 259 to 262, northbound – Right lane closure for pavement work. Sept. 25, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Route 11 – On- and off-ramps restricted to 10-foot widths for overnight guardrail installation. Estimated project completion Oct. 24, 2014.

Route 33 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Tuesday to Friday.

(NEW) Route 253 (Port Republic Road) – Eastbound shoulder and lane closures as needed between Route 726 (Stone Spring Road) and Route 710 (Ridgedale Road) for turn lane construction at Stone Port Development.  Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Estimated completion October 2014.

Route 253 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Tuesday to Friday.

Route 340 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Tuesday to Friday.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 612 (Hopkins Gap Road) – Flagger traffic control at various locations for milling, paving and line marking from Route 612 (Peake Mountain Road) to Route 817 (Genoa Road).  Monday to Saturday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

(NEW) Route 620 (Indian Trail Road) between Route 33 (Spotswood Trail) and Route 620 (Mountain Valley Road) – Utility permit work with flagger controlled intermittent single lane closure. September 23, 8:30 to 3 p.m.

Route 726 (Stone Spring Road and Peach Grove Avenue) – Motorists should be alert for traffic-pattern changes, shoulder closures and occasional flagger-controlled lane closures related to the Route 280 Southeast Connector project. Work zone extends from 0.51 mile east of Harrisonburg city limits to 0.15 mile west of city limits. Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion November 2014.

Route 745 (Martin Miller Road) – Pipe work from Route 257 (Ottobine Road) to Route 744 (Dry Hollow Road). Periodic, short duration closures, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Follow posted detours.

Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

Various roads – Lane and shoulder closures as needed for pipe installation, patching, brush cutting, shoulder repairs, ditching operations and grading. Mowing, litter pickup and pavement repairs as needed.

 

 

PAGE COUNTY

(NEW) Route 340 (Cub Run Bridge) – Flagger controlled lane closures for soil test borings south of intersection Route 340 and Newport Road. September 22, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

(NEW) Route 340 – Intermittent 10-minute road closures as needed on Norfolk Southern railway right of way for overhead bridge work south of Bentonville near Route 664 (Carvell Road). September 22 through 26.

(UPDATE) Mile marker 264 to 300, northbound and southbound – Be alert for debris removal, tree removal and cleaning under guardrails.  Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

(UPDATE) Mile marker 265 to 275, northbound – Nighttime lane closures at various locations for milling and paving:  Left lane closures September 22 through 25, 7 p.m. to 9 a.m.  Left lane closures September 26, 10 p.m. to 9 a.m. Left lane closures September 27, 7 p.m. to 9 a.m.  Estimated completion Oct. 24, 2014.

Mile marker 280 to 273, southbound.  Nighttime left lane closures, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m., for guardrail upgrades and shoulder paving. Estimated completion Jan. 15, 2015.

Route 42 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Tuesday to Friday.

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 760 (Water Street) – Flagger controlled traffic from Route 1403 to 0.30 mile east for bridge replacement over Stony Creek. Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Estimated completion June 2015.

FREDERICK COUNTY

INTERSTATE 81

Mile marker 300 to 324, northbound and southbound – Be alert for debris and brush removal. Pothole repairs as needed. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Route 11 – Line painting in both directions. Work will occur mostly during daylight hours utilizing a mobile work zone. Estimated completion September 30.

Route 522 – Shoulder closures northbound lane for the installation of fiber optic conduit between Route 679 and the West Virginia Line.  Estimated completion is Oct. 1, 2014.

(NEW) Various roads – Shoulder work. Monday to Friday.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 704 (Back Creek Road) – Road closed to through traffic from Route 632 (Sandmine Road) to Route 617 (Pine Top Road) until approximately September 26 at 3:30 p.m. Only local traffic will be allowed beyond these two points.  Detours:  Southbound traffic will travel west on Route 751 (Gore Road) then west on Route 50 (Northwestern Pike) then south on Route 259 (Carper’s Pike) to West Virginia Route 259, then southeast on West Virginia’s Back Creek Road, then east on West Virginia’s White Pine Ridge Road which becomes Route 617 Pine Top Road in Virginia to Route 704 Back Creek Road.  Northbound traffic will travel west on Route 617 (Pine Top Road) into West Virginia’s White Pine Ridge Road then northwest on West Virginia’s Back Creek Road, then north on West Virginia’s Route 259 to Virginia’s Route 259 (Carper’s Pike), then east on Route 50 (Northwestern Pike), then east on Route 751 (Gore Road) to Route 704 (Back Creek Road).

CLARKE COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 7 (Harry Byrd Highway), eastbound and westbound – Alternating single lane and shoulder closures for bridge inspection over Norfolk Southern railway, September 23, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Route 340 – Flagger traffic control at intersection to Route 657 (Senseny Road) for turn-lane construction.  Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily.  Estimated completion October 2014.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

No lane closures reported.

 

 

WARREN COUNTY

INTERSTATE 66

(UPDATE) Mile marker 0 to 15, westbound and eastbound – Be alert for debris removal and cleaning paved ditches.  Pothole repairs as needed. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

INTERSTATE 81

No lane closures reported.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 55 (West Strasburg Road) – Be watchful for eastbound and westbound lane shifts near the intersection with Route 340/522 and Forest Hill Drive. These lane shifts will be in effect for at least one year as part of the South Fork Shenandoah River bridge project.

Route 340/522 (North Shenandoah Avenue/Winchester Road), from Duck Street to 17th Street – Old South Fork bridge replacement and interchange modification at Route 55 (Strasburg Road) and 340/522.  Possible lane closures from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and nightly lane closures from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m., Monday through Friday. Additional lane shift and closure of center turn lane from the south end of the bridge to just past 17th Street and closure of 18th Street to through traffic. Through traffic will detour onto North Royal Avenue and 17th Street. These changes will be in effect through summer 2015.  Estimated bridge completion December 2017.

Route 340 (Stonewall Jackson Highway) – Bridge replacement work over Gooney Creek from 0.67 miles south of Route 605 to 0.35 miles north of Route 605.  Traffic controlled by flaggers Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Motorists should expect minor delays. Estimated completion October 2015.

(NEW) Various roads – Shoulder repairs. Monday to Friday.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 603 (Oregon Hollow Road) – Traffic controlled by flaggers Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. for reconstruction of Route 603 from Route 647 (Dismal Hollow Road) to 0.5 miles north. Estimated completion December 2014.

Route 613 (Indian Hollow Road) – Traffic controlled by flaggers Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. for replacement of low water bridge over South Fork of Shenandoah River. Work zone from Route 628 to 0.35 miles north. Estimated completion October 2014.

(UPDATE) Various roads – Mowing.  Monday to Friday.

 

Vegetation management may take place district wide on various routes.

Motorists are reminded to use extreme caution when traveling through work zones.
