Students in the Staunton community may enjoy texts throughout the year, as the Staunton City Title I Parent Resource Van travels to them within their neighborhoods this summer.
“Reading has so many positive benefits for students. It develops language and vocabulary, uses student imagination, allows students to ask and seek answers to questions, fosters personal connections and empathy, and, most importantly, is fun for students!” states Executive Director of Instruction, Stephanie Haskins.
Amy Montoya, a 4th grade teacher at McSwain Elementary, and her daughter Maria Montoya, a 2018 graduate of Lee High School, are passionate about getting books into the hands of students. When they inquired about possible options to make this happen, the Parent Resource Van seemed like a perfect fit.
Amy and Maria worked with local community developments to establish a schedule (included with this release) and have been actively visiting sites each week. At the designated places and times, students and parents may visit the van and check out books for preschool through high school ages.
