The American Shakespeare Center is gearing up for an enchanting Queen City Mischief & Magic weekend September 27 to 29, 2024 in downtown Staunton.

Visitors are encouraged to attend the iconic Blackfriars Playhouse for some witchy “double, double, toil and trouble” in Shakespeare’s Macbeth, playing Friday, September 27 and twice on Saturday, September 28.

ASC’s Education Team will enchant participants with a Wizard Dueling Workshop, where aspiring witches and wizards can practice casting classic spells while mastering the fine art of duel etiquette from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on September 28.

For anyone ready to dance like they’ve been hit with the “Tarantalegra” curse, ASC will host magical Yule Ball-inspired dance sessions, and bring a dash of Hogwarts to life with dances set to modern Muggle music. Dance lessons will be available every half hour, on the half hour from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. also on September 28.

Dr. Ralph will share with ASC audiences all about “Macbeth” on Friday, September 27 at 5 p.m. ASC Co-Founder and author of ShakesFear and “How to Cure It,” Dr. Ralph is not only a true Shakespeare expert, but also a beloved and engaging speaker with unique insights on Shakespeare’s plays that are perfect for first-timers and life-long scholars. Individuals will leave feeling enriched and freshly excited to see “Macbeth” at the Blackfriars Playhouse, prepared with a deeper understanding of the play’s core brilliance and what makes it special.

The month of November will feature four thrilling Friday Night Lights On events themed around the supernatural titles in ASC’s season “Macbeth and Dracula: A Comedy of Terrors.”

From vampires to witches and beyond, ASC will offer 20 percent off ticket prices with a special subscription package to all four FNLO events:
November 1: “Something Wicked This Way Comes: Witches, Demonology, and the Struggle for Control in Medieval/Early Modern England and Scotland” with Nina Ryan
November 8: Dr. Ralph on the Supernatural
November 15: “Undead Aristocrats: The History of the Vampiric Mythos” with Aidan O’Reilly
November 22: “Dracula, the Man of Legend” with Hailey Pearce

The total package cost is $22.40 per person for general admission and $16 per student, teacher and Blackfriars Circle members. Each event is from 5 to 6 p.m.
