salem red soxFor the first time this season, Salem has won four straight games. The Red Sox defeated the Potomac Nationals 5-1 on Sunday, behind six strong innings from Heri Quevedo.

Though he allowed four walks, Quevedo worked around the free passes to sail through six, giving up two hits and no runs. He struck out four, and improved to 3-3 with the victory. The right-hander retired 14 of the final 17 batters he faced, and didn’t allow a hit past the second inning.

After producing comeback victories in the initial two games of the series against the Nationals, the Red Sox jumped in front first this time around.

Stefan Welch doubled in the first inning to score Deven Marrero. Then the Sox added two more in both the third and fourth. Keury De La Cruz and Mookie Betts smashed RBI singles in the third. In the following frame, De La Cruz added another RBI single, and Welch delivered a sac fly to drive in a run.

Nationals starter Marcos Frias fell to 1-1 after taking the loss. He lasted only three innings, surrendering three runs on eight hits.

Down 5-0, Potomac threatened against Nefi Ogando in the eighth inning, scoring once on an RBI single from Adrian Nieto, but Ogando stranded two to end the inning.

Salem has now won six of its last seven games, and owns a record of 47-47. The Red Sox last had a .500 record when they stood at 15-15.

In the final game of the current four-game series and eight-game homestand, Salem will face Potomac Monday at 7:05 pm. Mike Augliera will pitch for the Sox against a starter to be announced for the P-Nats, as Salem attempts to sweep Potomac.
