SMAC swimmers light up the state high school swim meet

smac ymcaThe Waynesboro Y year round competitive swim team, SMAC, (Shenandoah Marlins Aquatic Club) had numerous swimmers qualify for the High School 3A State Championship Swim Meet in Christiansburg, Virginia Friday, February 20.  The SMAC swimmers represented Western Albemarle, Waynesboro and Spotswood High Schools.    On the woman’s side Remedy Rule, Brazil Rule, Morgan James and Charlotte Rumsey lead Western Albemarle to an incredible 5th straight state title.  Jordan Miller and Maggie Riggan swam for Waynesboro and Jessie Arnold represented Spotswood.  On the men’s side Bobby Carey and Alexander Flowers swam for Waynesboro and Aaron James and Ryan Boyce swam for Western Albemarle

Remedy Rule capped off her stellar high school career by winning the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke and setting new 3A state records in both events.  Both times qualify her as a high school All American.  Younger sister Brazil scored many points for Western as she placed 2nd in the 100 free and 6th in the 200 free.  Remedy also lead Western to 2nd place finishes in the 200 medley relay and the 400 free relay while Brazil swam on the 400 free relay that placed 2nd and anchored Western first place finish in the 200 free relay.   Morgan James placed 5th in the 50 free and 9nth in the 100 free and also swam on the 200 and 400 free relays.  Charlotte Rumsey placed 5th in the 200 IM and 4th in the 100 breast stroke and swam on the 200 free and 400 free relays.  Congratulations to these young ladies for leading the Western girls to their 5th consecutive state title.

Jessie Arnold paced Spotswood to a 9th place finish on the woman’s side with a first place in the 500 free and a second place finish in the 200 free.  Jordan Miller and Maggie Riggan swam for Waynesboro and Miller placed 12th in the 200 free and 13 in the 500 free and Riggan placed 13th in the 100 backstroke and 15 in the 100 breast stroke

On the men’s side for Waynesboro, Flowers finished 4th in the 200 free and 8th in the 100 free and Carey finished 6 in the 200 free and 5th in the 500 free.  Waynesboro finished in 16th place.  Aaron James led the Western Albemarle guys to a 3rd place finish by placing 2nd in the 50 and 100 free and anchored the 200 and 400 free relays that finished 2nd and 7th , Boyce finished 14th in the 200 free.
