The Shenandoah Valley Art Center, during the month of December, is exhibiting the watermedia paintings of Staunton artist, Billie Rosenburger, whose mediations on color yield cheerful bright imagery.
She shares her love of nature and feelings of peace with viewers and collectors. She uses underpainting glazes of bright reds, oranges, and pinks to give the work a brilliant glow and the feeling that sunlight is permeating everything. At times, a thumbnail sketch will help her cement her composition before laying paint to the surface, and at other times the process is more spontaneous and simply involves diving right in.
Currently, she is working on the surface of recycled wood panels or gallery wrapped canvases where the image wraps all the way around the edge.
Since 1989, Rosenburger has focused on painting, but has, in the past, expressed her creative talents through pottery, stained glass and other media. An award winning artist in shows such as Art in the Park, Fall Foliage Festival Art Show, Co-Art Gallery in Staunton, and Paintings on the Piedmont in Charlottesville, Rosenburger continues to grow as an artist through her studies with nationally known painters.
An Opening Reception and Artist Talk will be held Dec. 7, 6-8 p.m., and the public is encouraged to come and meet the artist.
In the Hallway and Members’ Galleries, Shenandoah Valley Art Center member-artists are exhibiting small works of art in a variety of media and the Ginger Bread Sculpture Contest winners are on view from Dec. 7-14. Awards will be presented at the opening in children and adult categories for the most creative edible pieces. Don’t miss the vivid acrylic landscape paintings by Garry Galbraith to be featured in the Docent Room.
The center hopes to provide the opportunity to give great gifts of art during the holiday season. A Christmas tree featuring handcrafted ornaments selling from $2 – $25 is available to the public while additional creative gifts in fiber, jewelry, wood, glass, and pottery by juried artisans from the Artisan Center of Virginia and SVAC member-artists are available for purchase in the center’s gift shop.
