There is potential for severe thunderstorms in Virginia tonight that may produce high winds, heavy rain, lightning and localized tornadoes.

AccuWeather has the severe weather potential alert scheduled to end at 7 a.m. Saturday in the region.

Storms may produce flooding downpours and localized damaging wind gusts, according to the alert.

Possible tornadic activity has been reported in Washington D.C. and Baltimore.

The strong line of storms has much of the state on its radar including Roanoke, Charlottesville, Richmond and Hampton Roads.

According to AccuWeather, 150 million people are at risk for severe storms in the U.S. Weather “could prove to be shocking, disruptive and even devastating” to those most significantly affected by the storms.

Warm and increasingly humid air is fueling the storms – setting the state for multiple days of severe weather.

Pleasant weather is predicted for Sunday with highs in the upper 70s for the Shenandoah Valley.
