damaging wind gusts thunderstorms Sunday accuweather Severe weather throughout the country today will approach Virginia on Sunday with the potential for damaging wind gusts and localized flooding.

AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Thomas Kines said the cold front will also bring the threat of strong to severe thunderstorms, especially across the southern part of the state.

“Sunday will also be a windy day ahead of the front, and there can be wind gusts over 50 mph even if there aren’t any thunderstorms,” Kines said.

Strong winds in west Texas today are also kicking up a lot of dust which could impact Virginia.

“It’s not out of the question some of this dirt/dust makes it into Virginia Sunday, and we have another situation like last weekend when people noticed dirt on their cars, etc.”
