Scanning the list of NCAA baseball regional sites: A Vandy rematch for UVA?

Chris Graham

CWSThe NCAA, by and large, likes to keep teams as close to home as possible for the first weekend of the baseball postseason. For a team like Virginia, which will be on the road for the regionals for the first time since 2009, the list of nearby options isn’t long at all.

The nearest sites to Charlottesville would be either Louisville or Vanderbilt. Louisville, as a fellow ACC member, is a definite no as a first-weekend destination for the Cavs.

Vandy would, of course, be quite intriguing, given how the 2014 season ended, with the Commodores taking the College World Series with a 3-2 win over UVA in Game 3 of the championship round.

The regional sites are otherwise Midwest, Southwest and West, aside from the two Florida sites, at Miami and Florida State.

Of note, the 2009 ‘Hoos opened in Irvine, Calif., on its way to the school’s first-ever appearance in the CWS.
