nationals_logoNationals starter Gio Gonzalez didn’t get out of the third inning, and San Francisco coasted to a 12-6 win Saturday night.

The loss drops Washington (58-58) to 4-12 in its last 16 games, a stretch that has seen the Nats go from three games up on the New York Mets in the National League East to now being four and a half games back of the Mets (63-54).

Gonzalez (9-5, 3.86 ERA) put up two scoreless innings to start the night, but was hammered for a six-spot in the third, and was done after two and two-thirds innings, charged with six runs on five hits and two walks.

Jake Peavy (3-5, 4.18 ERA) got the win for the Giants despite a pedestrian night on the mound, charged with five runs on nine hits in five and two-thirds.

Ian Desmond (15) and Danny Espinosa (12) each hit solo homers for Washington, which has lost five in a row.
