Rynier on Hermann Trophy Watch List

James Madison women’s soccer player Teresa Rynier (Leola, Pa./Conestoga Valley) is among 45 Division I college soccer players on the Missouri Athletic Club’s Hermann Trophy Watch List for 2010.

The Hermann Trophy, considered the highest individual honor in intercollegiate soccer, was first awarded in 1988.

Rynier, a senior midfielder, was named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America All-Mid-Atlantic Region first team in 2009, and she earned All-Colonial Athletic Association first-team honors in 2008 and 2009.

She has led the CAA in assists in each of her three playing seasons and in 2009 broke her own JMU season assist record with 15. Rynier ranked second in the nation in assist average (0.63) in 2009, when she also set school records for career assists (40) and assists in a game (four).

“It’s quite an honor to be recognized as one of the top players in the country,” said JMU head coach Dave Lombardo. “Teresa has proven throughout her career here that she is a dynamic attacking force, and this is recognition of her outstanding career at JMU.”

This marks the third consecutive year JMU has been represented on the Watch List. In 2008 both senior midfielder Kim Germain and sophomore forward Cate Tisinger appeared on the list, and in 2009 senior forward Corky Julien was on the list.

Voting for the MAC Hermann Trophy by college coaches is conducted in late November, when a field of 15 semifinalists is reduced to three finalists. Those three will be invited to the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis on Jan. 7, 2011, where a news conference will be held to announce the winner, followed by a banquet to honor the three finalists.
