Longwood University men’s basketball freshman Ryan Badowski will transfer out of the program, school officials announced Monday.
The Cleveland, Ohio, native started 17 games in 2014-15 and averaged 22.1 minutes, 7.3 points and 2.4 rebounds her game. He was named to the Big South All-Freshman Team after finishing as the conference’s second-leading freshman scorer.
“I’d like to thank my coaches, teammates and the rest of the Longwood community for making my freshman year something special,” Badowski said. “Unfortunately, being almost nine hours away from home for an entire year has been difficult, and I would like to finish my college career at a closer location. I am truly thankful to be surrounded by great people here at Longwood and will cherish the memories I made my first year of college.”
Badowski joins this year’s list of nearly 400 Division I players who have announced their intent to transfer from their respective institutions.
“Ryan expressed a desire to finish his college career closer to home,” Gee said. “Obviously we hate to see a young man of Ryan’s character and skill go, but we wish him the best. He was an exemplary member of our program, and I know he will be successful in whatever he chooses to pursue in life.”
Badowski started 17 games in his first collegiate season and scored in double figures eight times. He was a two-time Big South Freshman of the Week and was named a Longwood Scholar-Athlete after holding a grade point average above 3.0 in his first semester.
Following Badowski’s departure, Longwood will return 10 letterwinners and three starters for the 2015-16 season.
