road-work-headerThe Virginia Department of Transportation will reopen Route 39 (Maury River Road) through Goshen Pass in Rockbridge County at noon today (Wednesday, July 30). Route 39 was closed July 14 for slope-reinforcement work, which is finishing up about 10 days earlier than expected.

Recent inspections prompted VDOT to make improvements to Route 39 at several sites along the Maury River in the Goshen Pass area. At each location, contractors installed a series of “soil nails,” which are concrete-and-steel rods driven horizontally beneath the roadbed. The road had been closed weekdays during the operation.
