The Rockingham Harrisonburg SPCA (RHSPCA) will host a special “Name Your Price” Dog Adoption Event on Saturday, June 14, to help find loving homes for dozens of dogs, including dogs recently rescued from a large-scale hoarding situation in Broadway.

In May, the RHSPCA took in a record number of animals — 134 dogs, 319 animals in total — including 58 dogs rescued from the hoarding case in Broadway. Many of the rescued dogs were adopted by their fosters and some transferred to rescue partner organizations. At least 10 rescued dogs, along with 45 others, will be available for adoption at the upcoming event.

“We saw an unprecedented number of dogs come into our care last month. The large group from the Broadway case strained our resources. But we persevered thanks to the dedication of our team and the compassion of our supporters. We’re hopeful the event will free up much needed space in the shelter and find these deserving dogs a loving home,” Huck Nawaz, Executive Director at RHSPCA, said.

Saturday’s event will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and feature name your price adoptions for adult dogs, which offers a significant savings from the standard adoption fees, which typically range from $150 for senior dogs to $250 for small breed dogs under 25 lbs. Puppies are excluded from the special pricing.

All adopted dogs will be spayed/neutered, vaccinated and microchipped, and adopters will also receive post-adoption support and resources from the RHSPCA team.

“We are so grateful for the outpouring of support from our community for the Broadway rescue dogs and now, we are excited to be able to have some of these rescue dogs available for adoption to the public in addition to the other deserving dogs in our care,” RHSPCA Development Associate Madison Spiess said.

Animal control officers seized 58 dogs from a hoarding situation in Broadway in early May and called the RHSPCA to assist in finding new homes for the dogs, who received medical care and were fostered out until permanent homes were found. Ten of the Broadway dogs will be available for adoption at Saturday’s event.

RHSPCA is at 2170 Old Furnace Rd, Harrisonburg.
