Robert Hurt votes to strengthen U.S.-Israel Alliance

Chris Graham

Robert_HurtCongressman Robert Hurt (R-Virginia) released the following statement after the House unanimously passed S. 2673, the United States-Israel Strategic Partnership Act of 2014, which would strengthen the alliance between Israel and the United States by designating Israel as a ‘major strategic partner’ of the United States and expanding U.S.-Israeli cooperation in areas such as defense, intelligence, and homeland security:

“Maintaining a strong strategic alliance with Israel – our greatest ally in the Middle East – is of critical importance at a time when the region is plagued with turmoil and instability that threatens both American and Israeli security interests.  By designating Israel as a ‘major strategic partner’ and expanding U.S.-Israeli cooperation, we are solidifying our bond with Israel and reaffirming our unwavering commitment to provide the support necessary to preserve Israel’s security and protect American interests.  This is also a vital step in preventing Iran from gaining nuclear capability – among the most important national security issues we face.  I was proud to support this measure and pleased that it also passed the Senate unanimously.  It is my hope that the President will sign this bill into law as soon as possible.”
