Singer-songwriter Robert Earl Keen will make a stop in Charlottesville next month at The Paramount Theater.

Starr Hill announced the Houston native’s upcoming performance for Aug. 10 at 8 p.m.

A Houston native, Keen was weaned on classic rock and Willie Nelson records. By the time he entered Texas A&M University, he was teaching himself guitar, playing bluegrass and setting his poetic musings to song.

He eventually moved to Nashville to pursue a country music career. Keen worked at the well-known “Hatch Show Print” as a pressman. After Keen’s stint in Nashville, he returned to Texas with a publishing deal, a new label and a national booking agent.

Twenty one records later, REK continued to steer clear of the waters of the country mainstream offering an alternative to repetitious radio tunes

Tickets to the show range from $40 to $69. They may be reserved online at www.theparamount.net.
