RIR, Kansas Speedway engaging in friendly wager

Tell me what this has to do with Virginia Tech football again?
“We’re already starting to light the grills up – so we’re confident on the staff here at Richmond International Raceway,” said Doug Fritz, the president of RIR and a Virginia Tech alum, who has a friendly wager going with Kansas Speedway president and Kansas U. alum Jeff Boerger over the 2008 Orange Bowl.

If Virginia Tech wins, Boerger sends Kansas City strip steaks and sunflower seeds (Kansas is “The Sunflower State”). If Kansas wins, Fritz sends Virginia hams and Virginia peanuts to Kansas.
“We know Kansas University has had a great year, but our Hokies seem to be getting better and better with every passing week during the season,” Fritz said in an interview on “The SportsDominion Show” last week.
“So we’re very optimistic that we’re going to come away with a win – so we’re starting to line up the side dishes and all that to prepare for a nice cookout one warm day in January,” Fritz said.

The Orange Bowl is set for Jan. 3. Fritz will be on hand to watch the game from the stands.
“Although I would like to introduce two very tasty Virginia products to the employees at Kansas Speedway, I would much rather taste victory over the Jayhawks when my beloved Hokies reign supreme at the Orange Bowl,” Fritz said. “I will be watching my good friend coach Frank Beamer and his team closely from the stands and I look forward to returning to Richmond to hand out the strip steaks and sunflower seeds to all of the employees at Richmond International Raceway. Go Hokies!”
