Richmond makes it three in a row over Altoona

Left-hander Jack Snodgrass returned to form and led the Richmond Flying Squirrels (6-17) to their third straight win over the Altoona Curve, 4-1, on Wednesday night at Peoples Natural Gas Field.  With the win, Richmond posted their first series win of the season and improved to 4-1 against the Curve on the year.

The Squirrels got off to a quick start against right-hander Tyler Glasnow in the top of the first inning.  Devin Harris got the Squirrels started with a one-out double yanked into the left-field corner.  Mac Williamson followed and cracked the first pitch to the left-field corner again.  Harris scored on Williamson’s double for a 1-0 lead.  Mitch Delfino then made it three consecutive hits when he laced the first pitch he saw into right field for a single.  With runners on the corners, Ricky Oropesa bounced out to second base.  Williamson scored for a 2-0 lead.  Myles Schroder then lifted a fly ball to left field.  Willy Garcia dropped it, and the error allowed Delfino to score for a 3-0 lead.

The Curve got one run back off Snodgrass in the third.  Glasnow sparked the inning with a single through the left-side of the infield.  It marked the first professional hit for Glasnow.  Keon Broxton followed with an infield-single and Snodgrass walked Max Moroff to load the bases.  Josh Bell bounced into a fielder’s choice to plate Glasnow and cut the Richmond lead to 3-1.

Glasnow (2-1) reportedly felt some discomfort in his right ankle after sliding into second base while running the bases and was removed from the ballgame.  He worked just three innings, charged with three runs – two earned – on three hits.  He walked none, struck out four and was saddled with the loss – his first.

The Squirrels tacked on a run in the sixth.  Harris led off with his second hit of the night, a single off of lefty Tom Harlan.  Harlan recorded the first two outs, but then walked Oropesa and was lifted in favor of fellow lefty Jeremy Bliech.  Schroder greeted him with an RBI single lined to centerfield.  The run was charged to Harlan as Richmond led, 4-1.

Snodgrass (2-3) was outstanding over six innings.  He allowed just the lone run on four hits.  He walked one and struck out six.  He improved to 7-1 lifetime against the Curve.

Right-handers Pedro Rodriguez, Stephen Johnson and Jose Casilla combined to take it the rest of the way for the Squirrels.  Rodriguez got just one out, but Johnson handled an inning and two thirds.  Casilla worked the ninth to earn his first save of the year.

The finale of the four-game series is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on Thursday morning at Peoples Natural Gas Field.  Richmond LHP Matt Lujan (0-2, 4.35) will make the start against Altoona RHP Angel Sanchez (2-0, 1.00).  The Flying Squirrels Pregame Warmup will begin at 10 a.m. on Fox Sports 910 and FoxSportsRichmond.com.
