daniel murphyESPN.com is reporting that New York Mets second baseman Daniel Murphy will sign with the Washington Nationals.

The terms of the deal have Murphy agreeing to a three-year, $37.5 million contract with the Nats, who finished second to the Mets in the National League East in 2015.

Murphy, who turns 31 on April 1, turned down a one-year, $15.8 million offer from the Mets.

He had a .281/.332/.449 slash line in 2015 with a career-high 14 homers and 73 RBI, and set an MLB record with homers in six consecutive playoff games.

Murphy was the 2005 Valley League Most Valuable Player as a member of the Luray Wranglers.
