Reds complete sweep of Nats with 8-2 win

nationals_logoCincinnati scored six in the seventh inning to break a 2-2 tie and complete a three-game sweep of the Washington Nationals with an 8-2 Reds win on Sunday.

Tanner Roark had done his job as the starter, giving up two runs on four hits in six innings, and he left with the game tied at 2-2 after an RBI single in the top of the seventh by Michael Taylor.

Aaron Barrett (3-1) relieved Roark, and gave up the tie-breaking RBI single to Brandon Phillips that opened up the floodgates for the Reds, who also got an RBI double from Todd Frazier, a two-run double from Jay Bruce, and run-scoring singles from Brennan Boesch and Tucker Barnhart in the frame.

The Nats (28-22) maintain a one-game lead over the New York Mets in the National League East, and return home Monday to start a three-game series with the Toronto Blue Jays.
