Mookie Betts hit two homers, the second a tie-breaking two-run shot in the eighth, to power Boston to a 5-3 win at Baltimore on Tuesday.
The second homer, off Orioles reliever Brad Brach (7-2, 1.61 ERA, 0.93 ERA), followed a David Ortiz leadoff single.
The first Betts long ball, a three-run shot, came in the fifth off O’s starter Yovani Gallardo (4-4, 5.18 ERA, 1.61 ERA), who had shut out the Red Sox on two hits through the first four innings.
Six Sox pitchers combined to hold Baltimore to four hits on the night. Brad Ziegler (1-3, 2.63 ERA, 1.40 WHIP) got the win in relief, and Craig Kimbrel (21 saves, 3.23 ERA, 1.10 WHIP) got the save.
The win pulls Boston (66-52) into a second-place tie with Baltimore (66-52) in the AL East. Both teams are a game back of Toronto (68-52).
