Radiothon to raise funds for Habitat mission work

The Staunton-Augusta-Waynesboro Habitat for Humanity is holding a Radiothon March 11^th, 12^th, and 13^th from 7 to 10 a.m. thanks to Clear Channel Communications and Kris Neal’s Country Club morning radio show.

The three-hour Radiothon will broadcast during the Country Club show on WKDW 900 AM live.  The show will have guest hosts Tom Montgomery (who is a radio personality from the 60’s and fondly remembered for his narration of the Cinnamon Bear Christmas stories for children) and Staunton Third Presbyterian Pastor Jack Wilkers.  They will be joined each hour by other area ministers and pastors whose congregations are active in mission work with Habitat.  The program will share information about Habitat’s home building and home repair programs and how that impacts in our community.

SAW Habitat for Humanity has built or rehabilitated 60 local homes to date and helped house 209 people.  These families were living in sub-standard housing and could not afford the cost of a decent home’s market rent.  However, because they were willing to work with other volunteers to help build their own home, and had enough monthly income (at least $1,400 a month) to afford a Habitat no profit mortgage (which averages about $400 a month) – they were successful.   SAW Habitat and its partners have completed building and/or renovating property assessed at more than $5,456,000 in Staunton, Augusta County, and Waynesboro.  These properties return over $50,777 dollars annually in real estate taxes to the area.

Habitat is not a government housing – but a community supported Christian housing ministry self-help program that offers a hand-up and not a hand-out.  They have set a goal to raise at least 10% of the funds needed to help 8 families have a decent home this year.   You can help by downloading a donation pledge form or making a donation on-line at www.habitatsaw.org.  Phone pledges can be made by calling SAW Habitat at (540) 886-1944.
