Radio Hour lineup set for November show

The November River City Radio Hour is guaranteed to chase November’s shadows away. The Marvelous Murphy Sisters, the Dreaded Blues Lady and Dr. Levine, and the Boogie Kings will pack the Nov. 19 Radio Hour with a jumpin’ menu of music and Marsha Howard will add a scoop of laughter.

The Marvelous Murphy Sisters are first time performers on the Radio Hour although they are well known throughout the region. Molly and Sally are members of the popular Judy Chops band which is known for its innovative style that combines folk, country, rock, swing, and bluegrass. The sisters sang in the soundtrack for the recent Discovery Channel film, “Coal Country,” and as part of The Judy Chops which opened for Acme Swing Mfg. Co. for Fridays After Five at the Charlottesville Pavilion in Charlottesville. For the November Radio Hour, the Marvelous Murphy Sisters will turn to their Swing side with backup from the Boogie Kings.

Returning to the Radio Hour are Lorie Strother, The Dreaded Blues Lady, and Dr. Stephen Levine. Ms. Strother has a powerful voice and a mastery of the emotions under girding the traditional American Blues. She is amply supported by Dr. Levine with his expert blues guitar styles.

Framing the musical talent will be The Boogie Kings under the direction of the multi-talented Richard Adams who also serves as the MC for the Radio Hour. William Hayes with his amazing keyboard skills and Sam Brown on percussion make the Boogie Kings a continuing delight for Radio Hour audiences.

Also returning to the Radio Hour will be Waynesboro’s First Lady of Laughter, Marsha Howard. She has been compiling a new set of jokes while on leave and is ready to leap back into performing.

Completing the November Radio Hour is Chapter Three of Kathy Johnson’s The Retired Detectives Roundtable and the Case of King Solomon’s Dagger. When we last left the Detectives, they had been plunged into darkness while shots rang out. The live sound effects will be provided by Julie Scott and J. D. Robb

The merchant of the month will be Dean Stanley, owner of Downtown Waynesboro’s newest business, 309 Martini Bar.

The November performance will take place at the Blue Ridge Christian Fellowship Hall at 329 West Main at 6:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. Seating is limited. Reserved seats are available for the Radio Hour for $7.50. Call 540.943.9999 to make a reservation.
