A public hearing scheduled for Oct. 14 will give Virginia residents a chance to weigh in on the request of Virginia Natural Gas to implement a conservation and ratemaking efficiency plan.

The $7.5 million plan is designed to assist VNG customers in lowering their energy bills. The company projects a savings to its customers of $39.5 million over a 10-year period with implementation of the plan.

Virginia Natural Gas is the first natural-gas utility in Virginia to seek approval of such a plan under the provisions of the Conservation and Ratemaking Efficiency Act that was passed by the General Assembly and put into law this year.

The public hearing is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 14, in the State Corporation Commission office in the Tyler Building, 1300 E. Main St., Richmond.

Written comments on the proposals must be submitted by Oct. 7. All correspondence should be sent to the Clerk of the State Corporation Commission, Document Control Center, P.O. Box 2118, Richmond, Va. 23218-2118, and refer to case number PUE-2008-00060.

Interested persons desiring to submit comments electronically may do so at the SCC’s website at www.scc.virginia.gov/case. Click on the PUBLIC COMMENTS/NOTICES link and then the SUBMIT COMMENTS button for case number PUE-2008-00060.
