Project GROWS is taking part in Giving Tuesday, and donations will be matched up to $10,000 thanks to the RZ Foundation and an anonymous donor.

The matching gift could help the organization raise $20,000 to support the mission of growing a healthy community buy connecting all people to nutritious foods.

Giving Tuesday is offered on Dec. 3.

Millions of people and organizations across the world will unite in the spirit of giving back, transforming communities and spreading goodwill.

“The most magical part of Giving Tuesday is that it’s made possible by the many and not the few; everyday people’s kindness, acts of generosity and commitment to a better world fuel this day of good,” said Asha Curran, CEO and co-founder of Giving Tuesday.

In the past year, Project GROWS has made significant strides in addressing food insecurity and improving community health.

The non-profit expanded its educational programs, hosted six weeks of immersive summer day camps and launched new mobile market locations in underserved neighborhoods. In addition, partnerships with local schools grew, helping reach even more children and families with fresh, nutritious food.

“Seeing the impact of our work firsthand is truly inspiring,” said Clara Metzler, executive director of Project GROWS. “Whether it’s watching kids shop for their own veggies using Kids Bucks or seniors shop with ease right outside their front door, we know that access to healthy food is transforming lives.

“We’re grateful for the growing support from our community, partners, and incredible volunteers as we continue to expand our work to build a more equitable food system.”

Project GROWS’ programs have made an indelible mark in the Staunton, Waynesboro and Augusta County area, bringing fresh food and educational opportunities to those who need them most.

Making the case for universal health care: The message is the message

Republicans use framing to deride universal health care when they use the terms “free health care” and “socialized medicine.” UHC is neither free nor socialized medicine, but the terms stick.
