Preview: Virginia Tech heads to #7 Miami for Friday night ACC Football clash

Virginia Tech is headed to South Florida to face seventh-ranked Miami on Friday night for a nationally-televised ACC Football matchup.

The Hokies (2-2, 0-0 ACC) and Hurricanes (4-0, 0-0 ACC) will kick off at 7:30 p.m. ET.

The game will be broadcast on ESPN from Hard Rock Stadium in Miami.

  • Friday night’s contest between the Hokies and Hurricanes will be the ACC opener for both teams this season.
  • Miami’s Cam Ward became just the 13th player in NCAA history to log 15,000 career passing yards last week against South Florida. Ward is one of two active FBS quarterbacks with 15,000 or more career passing yards, joining Oregon’s Dillion Gabriel.
  • Miami has been successful on both sides of the ball this season, boasting the nation’s second-best passing offense (405.0 yards per game), while also leading the FBS in sacks per game, averaging 4.00.
  • Virginia Tech has been solid at stopping the pass this season, boasting the ACC’s second-best passing defense, allowing just 160.0 yards per game.
  • The Hokies have also shut opponents down in the red zone, allowing scores on just 68.4 percent of their opponents’ red zone appearances.
  • Tech’s Bhayshul Tuten leads the ACC and ranks seventh nationally with seven rushing touchdowns this season, including three against Rutgers last week.
